F.G.A. Presents the Florida Geocaching League
Let the Games Begin!

Caching is, of course, an end in itself, but sometimes it's nice to add a little spice to the hunt. Towards that end FGA is starting a Caching League. Our first League season will run for two months, February and March 2010, and we'll compete on an individual basis (1 entry per GC account) using the "Lonely Cache" scoring system. This will encourage cachers to seek out those hides that can go unfound for months, and maybe challenge themselves in the process.

Participating in the League is easy. When you find a cache, note the combined difficulty/terrain rating...just add the star ratings together for your base score for that cache. Then determine your Lonely Cache points...for each previous month a cache has not been found you will get one additional point.

Here's an example of the scoring:

You find a cache on February 3rd that has not been found since January 2nd. The star rating for the cache is 2 terrain/2 difficulty. Your total points for this cache will be 5...2+2+1. If the cache had not been found since December 2nd your points would be 6...2+2+2.

Lonely Points run from date to date, not 30 days. February for example has less than 30 days, therefore a cache found on February 28th will earn you 1 point if the last log was on January 27th, 2 points if the last log was on December 27th, and so on. And if a cache has not been found for 16 months then yes, you'd get 16 Lonely Points for the find. If you are caching with another player (with a separate GC account) and you find a cache that earns you "lonely points" BOTH players will get the lonely points allowed for that cache.

If a cache has been temporarily disabled, then you must use the date the cache was reactivated as the last log date (not the date that the cache was last found or logged before being disabled).

You are allowed to submit your 20 best (highest-scoring) finds for each month.
Your scores MUST be emailed to JerseyGirl during the first week of the following month. If you don't submit your scores you will be assigned 0 points. If you can't find 20 caches in a given month you can still participate...submit the scores for those caches you have found. All types of caches qualify except Events. For this first round, any find in the month of February qualifies. You can join The League at any time during the first month, as long as your scores are submitted to me by March 7th. You must submit at least 5 finds for the first month to participate.

This is a statewide competition, and finds made outside of Florida also qualify.

Submission guidelines: First, choose your best 20 finds. Second, add up all your terrain star points. Third, add up all your difficulty star points. And finally, add all your lonely points. Send those three numbers to JerseyGirl in an email or private message by the 7th of the next month That's all there is to it.

IMPORTANT: THIS LEAGUE RUNS ON THE HONOR SYSTEM. WE TRUST EVERYONE TO FOLLOW THE RULES AND SUBMIT ACCURATE SCORES. YOU DON'T NEED TO LIST THE CACHES AND YOUR FINDS WILL NOT BE CHECKED.
“Life is like a movie, if you've sat through more than half of it and its sucked every second so far, it probably isn't gonna get great right at the end and make it all worthwhile. None should blame you for walking out early.”
