Impending 500

Postby Hebrew Hammer » Thu Feb 25, 2010 2:27 pm

After several life altering changes, deployments, marriages, divorces (yes plural...long story), moves, and other crisis over the past five years I am finally on the cusp of my 500th find. Does anyone have a favorite West Volusia cache to recommend for the auspicious occasion?

Yikes......West Volusia? Do you have a bullet-proof vehicle? You'd be safer swimming in the large orca tank at Sea World.

I haven't experienced a crime problem in Deltona...but down your way there are definitely portions of Palm Bay I wouldn't drive through without my sidearm.

The Etch-O-Sketch Night Cache by Clan Riffster (GCPX66) It is just outside of western Volusia county.
I know where I'm going even if it looks like I don't.

March 15th is the first opportunity I will have to make this cache. I work the 4-12 evening shift and have an Army Reserve drill weekend coming up the first weekend in March. Although this is a night cache I don't want to attempt this cache after work--that will make for a late night of no sleep. I would prefer to begin this one right at dusk. This cache seems to be made more fun by making it an event unto itself in a group effort. This definitely seems like a momentous cache and would be willing to make a trip for it on March 15th if we can get a little group going. Does Monday, March 15th sound good to anyone? I would like to give this cache a go, and nativefly182 would be a welcome addition. I would prefer to have at least one more addition preferably someone else who has not yet found it. Not for anything but with just the two of us or just with those having found this one previously I think I would likely end up being the evening's entertainment.

Needless to say, I'm not going to hold out for 500 on this one...but I definitely think this one is worth the challenge.

Personally speaking , even if you have found this one before , it would still be a most excellent adventure..As far as being the evenings entertainment? I don't think that would be the case..You are following reflectors not really yer g.p.s well at-least the first 2 stages ..Even if you have found it before , good luck finding it again.. after all its a trade mark "Rifter can" you can practically fall over one of them and not see it add in the cover of night...and good luck...

Ah....memories! I'll never forget my 500th cache find.

A chance for a FTF at night on a moderate hike into a not too distant WMA closed to the public at sunset. Armed with my trusty GPSr, a hiking stick, flashlight, a bottle of scotch, a pack of honey roasted cashews and new hiking shoes, I drove off into the countryside seeking adventure by myself. Yep....I was going for a milestone and it would be a FTF or else!

After two creek crossings, hundreds of mosquito bites, a sprained ankle and an empty whiskey bottle, I decided to call it a night and was thankful that my automobile was only 1.5 miles away. On the way home, I stopped at McDonalds for a cheeseburger and fries.

The next morning after doing the grocery shopping with my wife, I stopped at Wal-Mart and grabbed a 1/1 film can for the big #500.

Hmmm.....what was the name of that cache?
