What's your favorite cache on the West Coast

Postby Greyhound352 » Sun Feb 14, 2010 5:13 pm

Hello to all,

I just purchased a Garmin 60CSX and ready to get into this sport. So I was curious what are some of the favorite caches here on the West Coast?

Thanks for any suggestions>

Welcome! You purchased a good unit and shouldn't have any problems finding caches.

The FGA has several bookmark lists on their profile page on geocaching.com. Here is the link for the West Central Region "Best of" from 2007.

From Brooksville, you've got a big hunk of state forest just east on 50, the Croom Section, and another big section north into Citrus County. Some nice days to spent out there, chasing tupperware. And an modest number of hides around town now too.
Bulldog Love (Xena) hides pleasant caches in your area. Pleasant places, good containers, good coords.

If you are interested in a quick, pathetic, totally lame, crappy, piece of doo-doo cache hide.....check out Cache & Keri's Gimme Shelter. For some reason, more than 200 geocachers have logged a find for this cache.....it's pretty sad!

IK ... how do you do that when one of them is apparently 'not really there'? I've never had this happen before. Can you really do that? Do I just log it as found again? Thanks.

I will go back and get the second one. :)

Here's the scoop on that cache.....

Cache & Keri hid the cache several years ago in a state of moderate intoxication following a geocaching event they attended which was hosted by Goofy Butterfly in SW Florida. The original cache is the camo'd pill bottle which we obtained at the event and placed under the west side of the gazebo. IK just happens to live somewhat close to the cache location so I coerced them into maintaining the cache for a modest stipend of a small quantity of Slaten Optimator.

After several complaints from geocachers who either could not find the container due to seasonal migration OR that they didn't like the fact we hired a colony of wasps to watch the cache......it was decided that IK would replace the container with a new one, namely a lock n lock. So, now there are two containers with two logs to sign.

Since I'm still the official cache owner, I chose to allow people to sign either or both logs and claim a smiley for either or both caches as a find.

Since you are a relative nubie to the game/sport of geocaching, I'll tell you that allowing more than one find log per cache location is not generally considered proper geo-etiquette but is not totally outside the parameters of generally accepted geocaching principles.....well at least not TOO far outside the parameters.

If you have wasted your time reading this explanation, then you deserve to log both containers and receive credit for a find for each of them. On the other hand, I've been known to randomly delete geocacher's legitimate find logs for absolutley no reason whatsoever.....it sort of evens the playing field so to speak. :bricks:

I do deserve it … I read the spell binding explanation! :) Okay, let me get this straight though. I go back and risk being attacked by the guardian wasps? Post it for a second smiley. Then, you may become inebriated and delete it at random? Well hell what more could one ask for. I’m on my way over there right now with a flashlight and wasp spray! Let my smiley stay and I’ll owe you a beer. :woohoo:

I'm afraid to ask, but what is a Slaten Optimator?

Slaten Optimator? it's a
SPATEN (brand of fine German beer) Optimator, type of beer brewed by Spaten - dark, rich, malty....

I think the wasps are gone. I'd expect hotel management to get after them PDQ.

I couldn't find the medicine bottle (true confessions, i didn't spend much time hunting it) and left the little lock and lock..... I suppose I could go pick it up, but i'm gonna leave it. That just about guarantees I won't be needing to maintain Mike's PnG any time soon...

beer, beer, beer!? i'm like the bacon commercial for dogs - but with beer. i love beer! thanks IK.

last i saw the pill bottle it was under the step on the left side.

i was teasing about the wasp spray ... i don't kill wasps ... we need them for pollination. unless they are attacking me then i will squash them to make them stop.

thanks again for being so helpful. :)

Sorry about the typo for the German beer.....Spaten Optimator.....after a few of them, I'm lucky to be able to find the keyboard.
